Since the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia has started again in 1998, more and more young Eritreans escape military service in their home country. Although at the momentthere is a ceasefire between the two countries, a peace treaty has not yet been signed, and so this refugee-stream will continue further on. Since the year 2000, already more than 50.000 teenagers are supposed to have escaped from Eritrea into the Sudan.
